God No God
An asteroid the size of Manhattan* hurtles through space and is about to strike Earth. Two humans watch, contemplating their impending doom. One says: God is punishing us for our sins by sending this asteroid to destroy the planet. The other says: There is no god, no sin, we just happen to be in the way of a large object hurtling though space. A few minutes later, regardless of human thought, Earth is obliterated.
*Large objects hurtling through space are frequently the size of Manhattan, Rhode Island, or a football field. For the sake of cosmopolitanism, we prefer our catastrophes to have a Manhattan reference.
Thank god the interpretation of reality never gets in the way of reality itself.
